Relationship of Depressive Symptoms to Negative Symptoms and Extrapyamidal Symptoms in Schizophrenic Inpatients

Abstract
object:
@EN The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship of depressive symptoms to negative symptoms, extrapyramidal symptoms and dose of antipsychotics in schizophrenic inpatients.
@ES Method:
@EN The authors evaluated 81 schizophrenic inpatients using Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale(BPRS), Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression(HRSD), Positive and negative Syndrome Scale(PANSS), Extrapyramidal Symptom Rating Scale(ESRS). Correlations
between
depressive symptoms and the clinical and drug variables were calculated using Spearman correlation coefficient.
@ES Result:
@EN There were no significant correlations between depressive symptom scores(HRSD) score, BPRS depressive mood score) and negative symptom core(PANSS negative score).
There were significant correlations between HRSD score and ESRS scores(total score, subjective score, objective score) and between BPRS depressive mood score and ESRS subjective score, whereas no significant correlation between BPRS depressive
mood
score and ESRS objective score was found. No correlations were found between depressive symptom scores(HRSD, BPRS depressive mood score) and dose of antipsychotic drug.
@ES Conclusion:
@EN Antipsychotic medication may be a factor related to the depressive symptoms found in schizophrenic patients. And the results also support the view that drug-induced extrapyramidal symptoms such as akinesia may be a factor that could account
for
depressive features seen in schizophrenic patients.
